Tour suggestion by Simone Meyer
We asked various personalities from the region which companies they will be visiting on Industry Night. The second tour suggestion comes from Simone Meyer, Initiator of cultural and urban redevelopment projects in Basel.
On a discovery tour through the city an countryside
Two years before the first Industry Night in the Basel area, the energetic project team "das mgmt" introduced me to the concept for the event as an insider. I was enthusiastic about the Industry Night plans right from the start. After all, what could be better than embarking on a discovery tour through the city and the night, encountering wildly different industry branches?
The variety of areas covered by the 52 companies is immense: printing technology, baking, programming, water treatment, medicine, construction cycles, robotics, etc. and the night is definitely too short. That’s why I design my programme so that I will be able to visit and experience as many companies as possible in a short space of time.
I take the S3 to Arlesheim and start at QuantumBasel, where I’ll brush up on my knowledge of high-performance computers. Then I’ll continue on to a guided tour of Axians to find out how cyberattacks are detected, combated, and fended off. On the way back to the city, I’ll stop off at Vito’s and treat myself to a slice of pizza. At Dreispitz, I change to the orange D shuttle line and make a detour to Roche – to be honest, I’m just curious to see the site from up close.
Then I continue to Messeplatz and transfer to the pink A shuttle line. At the IWB pumping station, I’ll learn how Rhine water is treated to make it drinkable. The next two stops are at Contargo: a container crane high in the skies and container golf. Now I’ll have to hurry so that I can get on the Ultra-Brag excavator before sailing over to Novartis from harbour basin 2 on the MS Evolutie, a charming historic freighter, while enjoying a beer on the Rhine.
Maybe I’ll have time for a headset tour of the Wonders of Medicine exhibition at Novartis. Either way, I’ll make my way home tired and inspired, full of new impressions and experiences.
